You live in the question.

You are one of the most complex and least understood Muslim archetypes. To some, you're barely Muslim. To others, especially outside the community, you are definitively Muslim. You don't see it in black and white, and part of you wishes others could see the nuance the way you do. They won't. Not because they're wrong, but because they don't have your vantage point.

You don't relate to Islam primarily through ritual or doctrine. It shows up in you culturally, politically, almost instinctively. You may not feel religious, but when something happens to Muslims anywhere, something in you reacts before you've had time to explain it.
