Layla is changing direction. Here’s why.
I founded Layla because Muslims in the West deserve a better way to meet. That part hasn’t changed. However, I started with matchmaking, and now I’ve realised that finding a partner is only part of it.
I made many good friends at university and beyond. But as time passes, friends move for work, move closer to family, or move to where a mortgage doesn’t cost an arm and a leg. And then suddenly, what used to be a casual meet-up requires a calendar invitation and a travel itinerary. I find that unacceptable.
Sometimes you just want someone to go rock climbing or grab coffee with, preferably without booking three weeks ahead. And yeah, you could go to the climbing gym alone and make friends eventually…but why not let Layla speed that process up? Let us suggest someone who lives close by, who’s into rock climbing and, most importantly, who understands your background.
That’s why I’m moving Layla toward friendship and curated introductions for Western Muslims.
And hold on, before you drop your but buts… I recognize that a shared Muslim identity doesn’t automatically make people compatible.
That’s where our archetype quiz comes in. It’s a starting point for understanding how people see the world. The aim is to bring like-minded people together around a shared interest, whether that’s playing padel or finding someone to go to Friday prayers with.
And yes, I’m still leaving room for romance. Layla lets you decide. It’s just not our main objective.
Layla will make the introduction. And our job is to make it a good one.
